Human Physiotherapy

Pain and discomfort, reduced movement and muscle weakness can be due to an acute injury, occupational stress or ongoing imbalances. Physiotherapy, for the use of joint mobilisation, massage and exercise can address these and improve the quality of life and restore function.

Core stability is vital for your body to function correctly and is often compromised in back pain. The combined use of joint mobilisation, massage and a personalised core stability programme can be beneficial in managing acute and chronic back pain.

Benefits of Massage

Massage can be of benefit to you by;

  • Reducing muscular discomfort/tension
  • Increasing range of movement
  • Increasing rate of recovery from competition, training and injury.

By;

  • Increasing circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Assisting in the removal of metabolic waste
  • Enhancing muscle tone
  • Relaxation of muscle spasm
  • Preventing and relieving adhesions/scar tissue
  • Affecting muscle length
  • Increasing tissue permeability
  • Stretching muscles
  • Affecting mind state

These benefits aid the muscles to function correctly therefore optimising performance and recovery in humans and horses.
Massage can also pick up on minor injuries allowing appropriate attention therefore reducing the risk of serious injury.

Equine Massage

Sports Massage is beneficial to horses for the same reasons it is beneficial to people due to all muscle structures being the same. Some common schooling problems that can be helped include one sidedness, being cold backed, poor shape over a fence and lack of engagement. Due to The Veterinary Act I require you to speak to your vet to obtain their permission for me to massage your horse although I have yet to have a vet refuse permission. Although massage can be beneficial to your horse it is not a substitute to veterinary attention.
