Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need physiotherapy?
You would benefit from physiotherapy if you are experiencing joint or muscular discomfort or pain, decreased range of movement/strength or an injury.

Will it hurt?
Physiotherapy can be uncomfortable but the level of discomfort is controlled by you with continual communication.

What do I need to wear? What will I need to take off?
Its best to wear loose fitting sports clothes. Only the area to be massaged needs to be exposed and towels are used to drape maintaining your comfort and modesty. Underwear is kept on at all times, for women receiving back, neck or shoulder massage, their bra should be left on and it will be undone once they are lying on the plinth.

How often do I need physiotherapy? How many sessions will I need?
Each individual concern varies, it can be necessary to have a number of sessions over a few weeks to address the initial problem followed by maintenance sessions as required. The cause of the discomfort is the guiding factor in most cases.

How soon before and after competition/training can I have treatment?
Treatment can be received immediately before or after or during competition /training. Just inform Tamsin of your training/competition schedule and the session can be tailored accordingly.

How will I feel afterwards, what do I need to do after?
Your individual response and chosen treatment strategy will effect how you feel. Some people feel an improvement immediately, other will feel discomfort or feel like they have trained hard following massage that may last up to 2 days before they see a difference. You may also feel light headed or groggy. Plenty of water should be drunk following massage.

Does physiotherapy help everyone?
Although many people find massage very beneficial there is no guarantee that every individual will feel a benefit.

When shouldn’t I have massage?
There are times when massage should not be received, these include acute injury, illness such as flu and some medical conditions. Please phone if you are concerned.

Will my horse accept sports massage?
Some horses will be suspicious at first but they soon realise that nothing scary is going to happen. Many horses enjoy it from the beginning.
